“Mortal Kombat: Ang Alamat ng Damortis” was the first movie I did when I was 13 years old. It’s a fantasy-adventure with a dash of romance, where a young princess sets out with a blind singer and a band of young warriors to defeat the evil Basilicus.
Directed by Peque Gallaga & Lore Reyes, and released by Viva Films in 1997, the movie was set in the magical world of Damortis where the favored Empress Sofia, a kind-hearted and just ruler played by Maricel Laxa was ordered to be assassinated by Basilicus, played by Mark Gil, her jealous brother who wants the throne and the power it entails. Princess Dahlia, played by yours truly, heir to the throne elopes with a blind singer named Mico (Ticson Uy). Amain (Jun Urbano) and his warrior trainees, Jobert (Jason Salcedo), Samuel (Junell Hernando), and Oman (Janus del Prado) are tasked to protect the princess and save Damortis from the evil forces of Basilicus.

“Ika-13 Kapitulo” is based on the idea that the end of the world will be brought on by the unholy union between a woman and satan himself and the child that they produce.
Directed by Michael de Mesa and released by Viva Films in 2000, the 13th Chapter is set in a world where society believes that every child is an angel and a blessing from God and the birth of Angela (Anne Curtis) brought wondrous joy to the couple David (Christopher de Leon) and Sara (Zsa zsa Padilla). But as time goes by, Angela turns out to be a curse rather than a blessing to the couple.

(2000) Juan & Ted: Wanted

“Juan & Ted: Wanted” is a wonderful comedy about two fugitives who try to do good after escaping prison and ultimately execution.
Directed by Al Tantay and released by Viva Films in 2000, Juan and Ted:Wanted is about the fugitives Juancho (Janno Gibbs) and Ted (Bayani Agbayani) have tried to mend one’s ways after they escaped jail and execution from the hands of Hepe (Jovit Moya) and Sgt. Langku (Boy Alano). They have transformed themselves into productive citizens by working as a bus driver and a bus conductor. Ted continued schooling while Juancho works double time to support their other needs. They have also developed a special bond with the bus raiders whom, they later figured, had problems of their own. So one day, the all go out of town to ease their worries but the parents of their children started to panic and call the attention of the school administrators. Just when they are leads expected, Hepe and Sgt. Langku show up and reveal the true identities of Juan and Ted.

“Mahal Kita: Final Answer!” is a comedy/romance about Joanna (Rufa Mae Quinto, a good-for-nothing girl who has been failing miserably in her attempts to win at television game-shows but soon finds herself hired by Nino (Bong Revilla) as his personal secretary, believing that she could be her lucky charm, and things we’re not working quite as planned.

Directed by Ike Jarlego Jr., and released by Viva Films in 2002, Nino is a person who is sufficiently motivated or ambitious to start a new career or business, or to pursue further education without the help of others. He now lives a life that he wanted. He feels that whatever he achieved, he owes to no one else but himself. He has isolated himself from is family and is afraid of commitment. Joanna is a very cheerful person who has made a career out of joining of all kinds of contests. When she applied as Nino’s assistant, Nino noticed that she brings luck to him so he hired her. After this, his life was never the same again.

“Lastikman” is a fictional character and superhero created by Filipino comics legend, Mars Ravelo. It follows the adventures of Hilario who after being hit by a meteor came to possess powers of extreme elasticity.

Directed by Tony Y. Reyes and released by Viva Films in 2003, Lastikman begins when a meteor strikes a rubber tree; it gives a young Hilario (Oyo Boy Sotto) some special powers of elasticity that renders him, among others, immune to bullets. Hilario grows up to be Professor Larry (Vic Sotto), a physics teacher. When fate and duty calls, he transforms as Lastikman, a superhero who protects people from injustice and oppression. Things become perplexing when Lastikman becomes involved with the fight of his two best students, as a result, his nerdy student, Jepoy (Jeffrey Quizon) who used to idolize him turn to a villain called Evil Stryker. To make matters worse, rumors spread that Lastikman beats up Jepoy and kills Ryan (Ryan Eigenmann). This disheartens Lastikman and makes him contemplate between being a superhero or to forever become an ordinary and simple man.

“Filipinas” is a drama about a local family separated by rifts and conflicts.
Directed by Joel Lamangan and released by Viva Films in 2003, tells the tale of Florencia Filipinas, the matriarch of a local Filipino family, she summons her children in an effort to unite the family once more. Unfortunately, the plan backfired, for her children still holds resentment against each other. Past hurts and grievances then surface, a tense atmosphere of conflict hangs in the household. Things get worse when the matriarch’s health fails and she slips in a coma. Now, for the first time, the siblings become one in praying for her health.

In “Kalesa”, a responsible young woman, Badong (Anne Curtis), and a fishy playboy, Wesley (Luis Manzano), fall in love despite their differences. And in “About Anna”, two heartbroken people Eric (John Lloyd Cruz) and Lia (Bea Alonzo) find comfort in each other’s arms.

“Wag Kang Lilingon” is a twin-bill horror movie made by two talented directors. It tells the tales of two women who may be connected through more that mortal means.

Directed by Jerry Lopez Sineneng and Quark Henares, released by Viva Films and Star Cinema in 2006, “Wag Kang Lilingon” is a twin-bill horror movie. In the first story, “Uyayi”, Melissa (Anne Curtis) is a young nurse with a bright future ahead of her. But the future will turn to her favor as strange and violent events occur at the hospital she works for. Together with her boyfriend, James, they try to uncover the killer behind the increasing number of deaths among the patients in the hospital. In the second story, “Salamin”, Angel (Kristine Hermosa) is a beautiful, young family breadwinner whose only aspiration is to see her family live a better life. When her father left her family for another woman, Angel decided to move into a new place; little did they know the danger that lies ahead. As she discovers an old mirror, she makes a wish at the stroke of midnight by the candlelight know her future. Instead, she unwittingly opens a portal of spirits.

“Ang Cute ng Ina Mo” is a comedy/drama about amother who foils her daughters attempt to expose her seeming flaws.
Directed by Christian Jan D. Santos and released by Viva Films & Star Cinema in 2007. The story revolves around Georgia, a Filipina fish sauce manufacturer and a mother who is finally reunited with her long-lost Filipino Australian daughter after 20 years of separation.

Christine can think of 101 reasons why her Australian dad must not marry her mom. The number one reason is that Georgia, her mother, disappeared from her life twenty years ago and never came back. When Christine goes to her mother’s town in Malabon, what starts out as an investigation turns out to be a hilarious yet touching journey for both mother and daughter. Christine’s outrageous attempts to expose her mother’s flaws are all foiled, as Georgia also comes up with hysterical schemes to win her daughter’s love. Meanwhile, things get more riotous when Nany Ninonu’s blind heart falls for Junjun, who is obviously gay and definitely shows no interest liking her back. Again and again, Christine is frustrated as no matter how she tries to harden her own heart, she cannot help but fall in love with her mother’s town and its people, especially Val, Georgia’s adopted son. Through Val’s eyes, she reluctantly begins to see what it means to have a real mother.

“When Love Begins” is a romantic summer movie offering of Star Cinema which stars Aga Muhlach and Anne Curtis. It’s a love story between two people who are both afraid of commitment and had the right love at the wrong time.

Directed by Jose Javier Reyes of “Kasal, Kasali, Kasalo” and released by Star Cinema & Viva Films. When Love Begins tells the story of Benedicto Caballero (Aga Muhlach) is an environmentalist who disapproves of deforestation for villages in mountainous regions in the country. He is more concerned of the environment than that of getting along with his siblings. It is revealed that he was a former lawyer and that he quit because of a matter between right or wrong and not about winning or losing. He focuses on nature; for him, it’s all about saving the planet. He visits Boracay and meets Michelle “Mitch” Valmonte (Anne Curtis) after ab accident. Mitch is a carefree, party girl who works for her father’s company. She and Ben get to know each other and develop special interests for each other. But making a relationship without any commitment is one probablythey both have to deal with. It goes well at first the relationship ends because of its’ impossibilities. Ben then discovers that Mitch’s father owns the company that ordered the deforestation and construction of a new village in which he is against. This leads them separate ways and try to forget about their so-called relationship.

The film is based on the historical event know as the “Siege of Baler”, where 57 Spanish soildiers held fort in the town of Baler for almost one year during the final moments of the Spanish occupation in the Philippines. Baler has won the festival’s best picture award among seven other major awards.

Baler is Viva Films’ official entry to the 34th Metro Manila Film Festival, starring Anne Curtis and Jericho Rosales and directed by Mark Meily. The film is based on the historical event known as the Siege of Baler, where 57 Spanish soldiers held fort in the town of Baler for almost one year during the final moments of the Spanish occupation in the Philippines. In 1898, a band of Spanish soldiers heroically defended Baler (which was not yet the capital municipality of Aurora until 1951) against Filipino forces for 337 long and grueling days. The battle, now referred to as the Siege Baler, is the setting of a forbidden love between a Mestizo soldier (Jericho Rosales) and Filipina lass (Anne Curtis) who lived at the end of the 19th century.

Directed by Rico Gutierrez and Mac Alejandre Ang Panday follows the life of Flavio (Bong Revilla), a blacksmith who only wants peace. He meets a beautiful stranger named Maria (Iza Calzado) who easily capture his heart. When a meteor falls down, Maria tells Flavio that this is an omen that he is chosen to be a hero. Flavio doesn’t want to have anyting to do with being a hero. From the remains of the meteor, Flavio crafted a dagger as a gift to Maria. But the evil Lizardo’s men came and took Maria. Flavio will head on adventures after adventures to save Maria from Lizardo.

  8. I never was a fan of filipino movies, and I even told and promised myself that i will never ever watch any filipino movees… i hated anne curtis for making eat my words :D
